There’s something magical about being invited back into a family’s world as it grows. When I first met this wonderful family a few years ago, their big sister was the tiniest newborn, all sleepy yawns and perfect little fingers. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of capturing her cake-covered grin at her first birthday and her curious toddler energy at two. Now, with my Akron newborn short film sessions, I can preserve these precious family moments in an entirely new way.
This spring, they welcomed their second baby—a sweet little boy—and I couldn’t wait to document this new chapter. But this time, we tried something different: combining traditional newborn photography with short film clips that capture all those fleeting moments between the posed shots.

Why This Felt So Right
Working with families over time creates something special. There’s a trust that develops, a comfort that shows in every image. When parents feel relaxed, babies settle easier, and big sisters are more willing to snuggle their new sibling for the camera.
Shooting in natural light here in Akron—whether at home or in my studio—gives everything this warm, timeless feel. But what I’ve been missing in my still images are those in-between moments: the way a mama instinctively sways while holding her baby, the soft sounds of feeding time, or how a big sister gently pats her brother’s back.
That’s where film comes in.
What These Mini Films Capture
These aren’t long productions—just 60 to 90 seconds of real life. I’m documenting the gentle moments that happen naturally: baby’s first yawn during our session, the way dad’s whole face softens when he looks at his son, or how big sister whispers “hi baby” when she thinks no one is listening.
The footage includes:
- Quiet feeding moments
- The gentle rhythm of swaddling
- Sibling interactions that can’t be posed
- Parents simply being present with their new little one
I keep the editing simple—warm, peaceful pacing with natural sound. No dramatic music or flashy effects, just honest storytelling that complements the portraits.
Why This Matters for Families
Still photography will always be my first love, but there’s something about movement and sound that brings memories to life in a different way. These short films become perfect for sharing with grandparents who live far away or for preserving on social media when baby milestones feel too precious not to document.

More than that, these emotive newborn videos are creating a fuller picture of this season in your family’s life. Twenty years from now, you’ll not only see how tiny your baby was, but you’ll hear those newborn sounds and remember exactly how it felt to hold them close.

This combination of fine art portraits and authentic behind-the-scenes newborn video Akron is still pretty rare in our area, which makes these sessions feel extra special. I’m not just capturing how your family looks—I’m preserving how this moment actually felt.

Every family’s story deserves to be told completely, in all its quiet, beautiful detail. Expecting a baby? Learn more about Akron newborn short film sessions for your little one.
