There’s something especially meaningful about photos that are given as a gift. This recent milestone session was planned as a Father’s Day surprise, and it ended up being such a sweet way to capture this season for their family.

I’ve photographed these little ones before — from mom’s maternity session to both newborn sessions — so seeing them together again in the studio felt extra special. Watching families grow over the years is one of my favorite parts of this job, and it’s always surreal seeing the tiny newborns I once posed suddenly sitting, smiling, crawling, and interacting with each other.

For this session, we kept everything soft, neutral, and timeless with simple studio setups that kept the focus exactly where it should be: on the connection between these siblings. Their coordinated earthy green and soft blue outfits photographed beautifully against the creamy tones of the studio and gave the entire gallery such a calm, classic feel.

Big sister completely stole the show at times with her sweet personality and protective cuddles, while little brother was full of smiles once he warmed up. The mix of posed sibling portraits and candid little moments together made this gallery feel so genuine and full of personality.

One of the things I love most about milestone sessions is that they freeze a stage that changes so quickly. Babies change dramatically during the first year, and sibling relationships seem to evolve overnight. These are the kinds of images that only become more meaningful with time.

And honestly? I can’t think of many Father’s Day gifts more meaningful than photographs of the people who call him dad.
If you’re thinking about documenting your baby’s first year, milestone sessions are perfect for capturing sitting, crawling, tummy time, and all of those in-between stages that pass far too quickly.
